The status of the developers' permits is being discussed by the Planning Commission at the hearing on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022. The hearing will start at 9am and be held in the Lihuʻe Civic Center, Moikeha Building Meeting Room 2A-2B 4444 Rice Street, Lihue. This is an opportunity for the Kaua`i community to voice its support for the property’s cultural and environmental restoration, and its return to the Hawaiian community!
This site and Wailuanuiaho`āno, is considered one of the most significant political and religious places on Kaua`i and throughout Hawaiʻi. With incredible cultural significance and history, both in an ancient and modern context, this site has so much more to offer than accommodation for transient guests. For many reasons, a hotel, or further commercial development, is just not appropriate here. This site could become a thriving example of living Hawaiian culture, mālama ʻāina, sustainability, education, history and music.
It is time for this historical site to be given the protection, restoration and respect it deserves and have it transitioned into the hands of our community for the benefit of future generations and Kauaʻi. There is a path and opportunity for Kauaʻi to honor this site appropriately and respectfully as the sacred and special place that it is. Our working group has been developing a plan to move forward to achieve this goal.
Please support the Coco Palms hotel site, Wailuanuiaho’āno, restored into a resource and place of learning and culture for generations to come. To learn more and stay involved please go to wailuanui.org and register for our mailing list.
