Thank you so much for signing my AP Physics extra credit petition. I appreciate you all for taking a moment to sign it, to help my grade. Dark sky cities are cities with specific regulations regarding light pollution and the attempts to minimize it. When looking at the sky in the Chicago suburbs, it is hard to see more than ten stars on a good day. While this is the most noticeable effect of light pollution, there are many others. Light pollution affects the navigation of animals like turtles and birds, causing them to be more confused which could lead to deadly encounters. After visiting a dark sky city in Arizona, I was amazed by the number of stars I could see, and would continuously be staring at the sky. This petition is an attempt at raising awareness for dark sky cities and making more people aware of what they are, and how they help.
