Just like the once-ubiquitous cigarette commercials which have now been deemed harmful, the pharmaceutical industry's marketing practices seem alarmingly similar.

Pharmaceutical advertisements can influence behavior in very real and concerning ways. According to a study conducted by Harvard Medical School, prescription drug advertisements often result in doctors prescribing specific name-brand medications, even when they are not the best or most affordable choice (Harvard Medical School, 2016). Consequently, not only our mental space but also our physical health and financial well-being are at stake.

Given these industry effects and their potential to influence the impressionable minds of our children, I propose an absolute ban on all pharmaceutical commercials from live TV and streaming platforms. This will not only safeguard our children but will also reduce unnecessary medical costs attributed to aggressive advertising.
