Firstly, thanks to everyone who has signed our petition. Please keep on sharing. We need to ask another favour from you though - to email the Northern Irish minister for universities, Stephen Farry.
Over the past week, Dr Farry has emerged as a major obstacle to our campaign. Various members of the Northern Irish Assembly have asked Farry to challenge the university's decision. He has refused.
This is hardly surprising given the cosy relationship that exists between himself and Ulster University's management. If it is influencing his decision not to exercise his powers, I would go much further and suggest that the relationship is no longer cosy but improper.
Indeed, my information is that the Assembly members had to twist Farry's arm to even secure a half-hearted commitment that he might ask the University to provide a rationale for the closure.
What we are asking people to do now is email Farry to exercise his powers to challenge the university and get the closure reviewed.
There are other things that I am certain many of us would like to put in an email to Farry but please keep a civil tone.
His email address is stephen.farry@allianceparty.org. In the unlikely event he does respond, please share any replies with the Save Ulster University School of Modern Languages.
Keep on fighting.
Jim
