XU-BSREM Program

On August 29, 2017, the CHED through the Technical Panel for Business and Management Education conducted the national public hearing on "GUIDELINES FOR ALTERNATIVE CURRICULUM FOR SECOND COURSERS TO QUALIFY FOR THE REAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT LICENSURE EXAMINATION". Xavier University (XU) attended the hearing and raised the following points:
1) If the proposed alternative curriculum for BSREM will be approved, only graduates of the program are QUALIFIED to take the real estate exams;
2) Non-graduates of the proposed alternative curriculum are NOT QUALIFIED to take the real estate exams;
3) The alternative curriculum is still a proposal. The existing course is the 4-year BSREM which is required by law for taking the real estate exams. THEREFORE, NON-BSREM GRADUATES ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO TAKE THE REAL ESTATE EXAMS.
The University of Cebu (UC) also attended the hearing and has the same stand with XU. Interestingly, a lawyer-delegate pointed out that the proposed alternative curriculum for second coursers to QUALIFY for the REM LICENSURE EXAMINATION IS AMENDING THE LAW. The lawyer-delegate suggested that the alternative curriculum should be for second coursers to qualify for the BSREM degree so it will not run counter to what the law requires. This is exactly the meat of the objection of XU and UC against allowing non-BSREM graduates to take the REM exams - only BSREM graduates are qualified to take the exams. So, the petition anchored strongly based on the law is standing still. What a welcome development! Thank you for making this fight, alive. Thank you for sharing. OBEY THE LAW!
