This is a time of national crisis unprecedented for almost everyone in Britain.

It is time for our politicians to stop squabbling and to do the job they were elected to do: lead our nation.

We call on all MPs, MEPs and peers who still believe in a European future for the UK, whether they are pro-Remain Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats, SNP, Plaid Cymru, Green or others, to unite into an “opposition of national unity”.

There is one issue standing before Britain now, which is what happens to our relationship with the European Union. The Leave campaign won the referendum, yet a very large minority of us did not agree with it. And had it been fought on honest arguments, and without claims that Leave politicians were backtracking on within hours of winning, there is every reason to believe that margin would have been tighter still.

Politicians must put aside their absurd squabbles and get on with the job they were hired to do: representing us, and making sure our desire to remain as involved in Europe as possible is heard and acted upon.

This must happen immediately.
