In the past 6-9 months there have been 3 accidents on Church Road with cars trying to get in and out of Fairview Vista. Last Saturday, the worst happened: our neighbor, 14 year old Kamal Nashid died while trying to cross Church Road by foot.

We in the Fairwood community and many of our neighbors in Bowie know this is a dangerous section of road. Cars fly by, sometimes at speeds exceeding 60mph. Drivers are constantly uncertain about whether they have enough time to turn on to Church Road without jeopardizing their own safety. Fairwood, which six years ago had less than 900 households, now has 1800. This is no longer a safe stretch of road - for our drivers and now, tragically, for our pedestrians (neighbors). 

We demand that Prince George's County immediately and urgently install a four way traffic signal at the intersection of Church and Fairview Vista so that our neighbors have a far safer entrance and exit onto Church by car, and that our neighbors and families have safe passage when they want to walk, run, or bike from the east side of Church Road to the west, and vice versa.
