Continue the funding of the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are given their best chance to succeed at university.

The issue

The Australian Government reportedly wants to scrap the ITAS scheme. This highly successful program has supported thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students since 1993. By ending its funding the government is indicating that university isn't for Indigenous people. Tony Abbott's emphasis on 'jobs' doesn't match the ambitions of Indigenous communities throughout Australia.

We need to show the government that we support this important program and we are angered that this valuable program is on the chopping block.
