With the help of supporters like you all across the country, my fight to get medical cannabis to treat my son’s (Alfie Dingley’s) severe epilepsy played a big part in getting the law changed to allow access to medical cannabis under prescription in the UK.  Alfie now has an NHS prescription. That law change back in November 2018 raised the hopes of many other families with children suffering from severe epilepsy.  But shockingly, since that date, as far as I and other campaigners are aware, only 1 other NHS prescription for the type of medical cannabis that has saved my son (that is the type containing both elements of medical cannabis – THC and CBD) has been issued on the NHS.  This is shocking.  It is devastating to the families that need it.  Many of them have had no other option but to get it privately at a cost of between £2,000 and £4,000 per month.  So as well as caring for a very sick child, they now have the added stress of raising money.  Some are facing the possibility of having to sell their homes to get the only medicine that helps their child.  Those that can’t find the money are not able to treat their child.  This is against everything the NHS stands for.

Last March, I helped a group of other parents go to Westminster where they met MPs and the Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock.  Matt Hancock listened and said he would help.  He tasked the NHS to sort out the problem. They did a report.  But despite all the warm words nothing has changed.  The parents are still having to go private or go without.  So I am going back to Parliament with them on 5th Feb to demand action.  We won’t give up.  Please help us by using the link https://endourpain.org/email-your-mp/ to urge your MP to meet us on the 5th February 2020.
