In the latest turn of events, the Malaysian Fisheries Advancement Board (LKIM) has removed the leader of the fishermen's resistance from his position as chairman of the Penang Fishermen's Association.
Please sign this petition to protect the fishermen's livelihoods and our precious ecosystem!
Nazri bin Ahmad, a champion of the fishermen and leader of the movement to oppose the PSR Project, has apparently been persecuted by LKIM with extreme authoritarian powers.
He has fought for the fate of fishermen who will be affected by the PSR project, faithful to the objectives set out in the Fishermen's Association Act (Act 44), the Fishermen's Association shall "regulate the participation of members in any fishery resource conservation plan". It is these fishermen who strive by day and night in search of fish, shrimp, fresh crabs to secure our food supply.
Finding a reason to disqualify his membership in the Penang Island South Fishermen's Association, LKIM has successfully removed him from his position as chairman of the Penang State Fishermen's Association, despite strong evidence for his eligibility as a member of the Fishermen's Association.
Therefore, we call on the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Seri Dr. Ronald Kiandee to reinstate Mr Nazri Ahmad to the position he previously held. We call on the Minister of Agriculture and the Food Industry to restore the principles of democracy that are fundamental to every society. Strengthen justice for the people and help the people in their time of need.
