Dear Auroville family, near and far,

Hello, we hope this message finds you well.

Since the conclusion of the S.O.S. Auroville petition on this platform, we have sent both a soft copy and a hard copy to the Office of the Prime Minister, the President of India, and other concerned ministers. So far, we have received an acknowledgment from the President’s Office informing us that the petition has been forwarded to the relevant authorities. We are yet to hear from the other authorities.

Although the term of the Governing Board ended on the 5th October 2025, our challenges continue on a daily basis.
A few illegitimate groups—deciding who is eligible to stay or leave the community—were appointed by the Secretary and the then Governing Board members.
According to the gazetted Auroville Foundation Act (1988), such groups must be formed and appointed by the Residents’ Assembly. These groups have issued "show -cause notices" to more than 35 dedicated residents, many of them long-term, asking them to justify their reason for living and working in Auroville, why they participated in certain events (mostly inaccurate and almost imaginary accusations), and other irrelevant questions.

A recent incident involved Major Arun Ambathy, a new member of the Auroville family, who received a "Termination Notice" signed by the Secretary, Dr. Jayanti Ravi. Arun has stood firmly for Auroville’s values and transparency in processes. He courageously questioned opaque and irregular administrative decisions, environmental destruction, and repeatedly requested dialogue.

Please go through and support the ongoing petition standing with Arun Ambathy:

Another shocking development was the termination of Auroville Today, one of the major outreach publications established in 1988.
The then Governing Board and Secretary, Dr. Jayanti Ravi, imposed a new Auroville Media Policy claiming complete control over Auroville’s media outreach platforms.
Please read the recent announcement regarding the final issue of Auroville Today, Vol. 436.
This is yet another action aimed at silencing the residents’ voices—a clear step against freedom of expression and press freedom.
