The past few months have been tense to say the least. The faction behind the authoritarian take over of Auroville launched one attack after another, pushing the rest of the residents into a corner where all they could do was defend themselves and their community institutions. There was no energy left to build and grow.

Today this might all change. A mass gathering is being organised by the legitimate committees elected by the residents to celebrate yesterday's court ruling from the Madras High Court. The people have won!

The judge ruled that the Governing Board and the secratary (both appointed by the Indian Government) have no right to overrule the Residents Assembly and issue unilateral orders appointing parallel committees and bypassing democratic processes. Those who sided with the authoritarians because they believed that they had the law on their side have been proven wrong.

August 15 is Independence Day -what better moment to grant genuine freedom to those living the dream of Indian freedom fighter Sri Aurobindo?
