Dear everyone who has signed our petition, We are so humbled by the overwhelming support this campaign has received by everyday Australians like you who want to see the truth exposed on Nauru. We have a little bit over $2000 left to raise to meet our $20,000 goal! Yesterday we learnt that a 23 year old refugee Somali woman is pleading with Malcolm Turnbull to allow her to come to Australia for an abortion, after being raped and becoming pregnant on Nauru. Her wellbeing is now at risk more than ever. It is clear that conditions on the island are harming the lives of men, women and children - mentally and physically. Help us tell their story by donating to get Wendy Bacon and Professor Carmen Lawrence to bear witness on Nauru. To donate visit: https://www.gofundme.com/zn5dkjpc Thank you, Luisa Low _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Our previous update: Prime Minister Turnbull trusts the Nauruan government to keep the refugee women, children and families safe on Nauru. But how would he know? Nauru is almost a black site operation now: with another two women coming forward to say they have been raped. The women, children and families living in fear of being raped, bashed and burnt believe they are on their own in this appalling situation. We cannot allow that isolation to continue. One of Australia’s most esteemed and experienced journalists, Wendy Bacon, has agreed to go to Nauru to cover the story as she finds it on the island. Elder stateswomen and former Premier of Western Australia and federal Health Minister, Professor Carmen Lawrence will accompany Wendy. Professor Lawrence will be there to bear witness and stand in solidarity with the women and families on Nauru. But this is where we all come in. As members of the Australian community who are ashamed of the treatment meted out to those coming to Australia seeking our protection we are crowd-funding the cost of getting both Wendy and Carmen to Nauru. That cost we estimate to be around $20,000 for the visas, flights, fundraising fee, transport and accommodation. Twenty-three men, women and children have now been raped or sexually abused and need the real story told. Donate now to raise the funds urgently needed to send Wendy and Carmen to bear witness on Nauru. https://www.gofundme.com/zn5dkjpc - Luisa Low, Julie Macken, Pamela Curr
