Indigenous People and the Settler populations of Canada have been challenged by the Government of Canada to create partnerships to address the social, economic, political, medical, and environmental barriers to improving Indigenous Peoples' quality of life. The selection of an Indigenous person to serve as Governor General of Canada inaugurates an era for these partnerships at the highest levels of Canadian society. This symbolic and signific gesture towards Indigenous allies of the Crown is on the frontier of change in Canada--truth, reconciliation, and now healing.
