Today (02/25/16) elections were held in Jamaica. The Prime Minister Simpson-Miller has been defeated and Hon. Andrew Holness has been elected. His party will also have a majority in Parliament as they also were elected today. In many ways this is good news for us, in that the secret MOU signed by the prior administration will now be known to the prevailing party. The newly formed government will be looking at the document to assess what commitments have been made with the respect to the PBPA/Goat Islands. For now the petition will remain up and running until we have a better understanding of the direction the new administration will take, as we may have to shift our focus as to who would become the receivers, should it become necessary. Our hope is that the new leaders will get the UN Biosphere Reserve back on track for the area, and that we can claim victory. Our intent in this is to help move Jamaica more towards sustainable development, while also having a solid land use plan in place to create jobs, educational opportunities, as well as preserve, restore and manage their limited resources and cultural heritage. We will be keeping you all informed as things progress. At this time we would like to thank you for your continued support in helping us reach out and doing your part. Without your voices standing united in this, we might not have ever seen this point. BIG UPS! Humbly & Respectfully Steven G. Smith
