A short report from the recent Parliamentary proceedings to the Petition:
The House endorsed the petition today 18 - 1.
It was the first email petition of it's kind.
Four members signed and 1,210 members of the public signed & commented on the online petition. 700 signatures and comments were included in the translated version that was presented by Tonga Heritage Society to the Legislative Assembly.
The signatory of 700 was raised in the House.
It is historic in that professionals and Tongans globally raised awareness & importance of the issue.
The importance of the location, mounds, pathways, burial sites, flight route & history was commented on.
Local and international radio and media coverage disseminated to the public awareness & understanding.
The public for the first time, acknowledged Aho'eitu's burial site. The Minister of Tourism fully supported the petition.
