Carers for disabled adults on Wirral are still in limbo - many months after a new service should have started. Whilst on one level, this is good news as we are still accessing the excellent service provided by caring staff at Girtrell Court, the future is looking less credible with every passing day. The much vaunted service user consultation conducted by Wirral Borough Council appears to be a masterclass in project mismanagement. # A significant number of bed based respite users appear to have been missed out of the sizing calculations which have supported the council's decision to virtually halve the respite provision in the borough; # Few (if any) service users have had any formal notification seven or so months after "consultation" that their loved ones have made it into this privatised life boat so we are largely unsighted on the scale of the "miscalculation" which could be significantly higher; # All four of the carers who reluctantly worked with the council to evaluate the proposed private service provision (to make the best of a bad job on behalf of their loved ones and all other respite users) find themselves among the casualties of these administrative mistakes; # the council "line" is that service users have changed their minds and now wish to revert to bed based respite. Service users involved know that this is manifestly untrue and that our needs have been "mysteriously but how conveniently" misinterpreted. # A formal complaint had been made to the Department of Health requesting them to intervene to prevent the deliberate destruction of this life and sanity saving service: Due to the continuing uncertainty and concern over where this valued service is heading and the appalling management of the consultation and subsequent implementation of a deeply flawed service model, a special council meeting is being convened on the 14th November when we would deeply appreciate your support to demonstrate how massively unpopular and unwanted the Girtrell Court closure is.
