The River Thames Scheme (final) public consultation launched on January 22nd 2024 and closes on March the 4th 2024. The consultation is your opportunity to voice your views and feedback on the scheme and which alternative route you think is best. 

The owners of Shepperton Open Water Swim will be launching their proposals on Option 2 of the RTS scheme on the day and we would love you to attend to learn more.

We support OPTION 2 and here is why............

Option 2 takes floodwater further away from Creek properties and Old Shepperton whilst still allowing private jetties access;

Option 2 allows for an overflow into the lake, away from Creek properties and Old Shepperton during extreme flood events;

Option 2 is better for wildlife as allows for greater number of wildlife habitats by naturalising the Creek/Chap bank and protects the lake which is a Site of Nature Conservation Interest from regular pollution (something which Option 1 would very likely threaten, including the public right of way proposed which would disturb wildlife);

Option 2 is hydraulically the better option based on independent engineer's advice and is less likely to cause riverbank erosion as flood water will literally 'go with the flow!'.
