Hi everyone, just home from tonight’s council meeting. Our community members Cara and Hannah spoke eloquently on our behalf, Martin Rooney and Hazel Sorell voted to close the library. Their main argument is that our schools are not at full capacity and the library can safely be incorporated into the Balloch Campus . It was difficult not being able to challenge this or to point out that this meant space for new pupils not a public library ! Apart from that as locals know the Nursery is at full capacity of over 60 children all of whom will be moving into the schools at some point. Our children’s safety is at stake , no other primary schools within our local authority have been asked to make space for a library, would you believe it by annexing the headteachers office and a bit off the nursery staff room. Councillor Michelle McGinty stated that in effect having a public library within the school was a common occurrence and actually a good thing . She seemed quite amused and could be seen laughing at one point. Labour made a great show of running down the SNP, despite our community members telling them this was not a political forum , we were there simply there to try to save our community library . Thank you to all who came tonight , the fight will go on. Please keep sharing.
