Prevent SeaWorld's plans to open in Abu Dhabi in 2022

The Issue

Dear Mr. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of Miral, Government of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Land Department, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Courts and Abu Dhabi Municipality,

I am contacting you to urge you not to allow SeaWorld to open a SeaWorld park in Abu Dhabi by the year 2022. When it was announced in 2015 that Dubai was to open a SeaWorld Park we got an amazing response from the people of the UAE and globally about the upset regarding this business venture.

A total of 197,201 supporters signed the petition to prevent SeaWorld from opening in Dubai and we were happy to hear that the project did not go through. On hearing the news of SeaWorld opening in Abu Dhabi, you can understand that the public of the UAE would like to voice their concerns.

As stated in the article: "Miral and SeaWorld Entertainment Inc ink deal for marine life theme park; first to open without controversial orcas". The fact that it even mentions the controversy regarding Orca treatment, means that you all are well aware of SeaWorld treatment towards Orcas and it doesn't simply stop there. Various other marine mammals are effected by this captivity such as Dolphins, Sea lions, Penguins and Seals.

Article in Arabian Business:

SeaWorld is already one of the worst examples of wild animal abuse in the history of the United States and SeaWorld should not be allowed to exist in Abu Dhabi as well. SeaWorld is absolutely barbaric in terms of what they are doing to these poor marine animals they have in captivity at their theme parks.

The article claimed "UAE's first dedicated marine life research, rescue, rehabilitation and return centre with world-class facilities and resources for the care and conservation of local marine life" - but if this is a focus of the UAE, to conserve marine wildlife - then it makes no sense to encourage a corporation like SeaWorld by facilitating their ignorance and abuse of marine mammals.

Within SeaWorld, the marine mammals are starved before each show and not fed until after they perform all of the tricks. The dolphins at SeaWorld also need to be in the wild. They are so poorly taken care of that a dolphin called a Pilot Whale recently got stuck on a ledge at SeaWorld Orlando and no trainers would come to push him back into the water for several minutes. The dolphin was probably trying to get free by attempting to jump out of his tiny enclosure when he instead got stuck on the ledge. This is not the first case of marine mammals acting out in their enclosures. Several Orca's have been reported to ram their cages, causing brain haemorrhaging and dolphins are know to even committee suicide as they are able to consciously close their blowholes and stop breathing.

Thus overall, SeaWorld are not leaders of conservation and violate whales, dolphins, sea lions and seals rights to freedom. All living beings deserve to be treated with respect and given freedom, and these marine mammals at SeaWorld are no different. Animals are not on this earth to be used as entertainment for humans. SeaWorld’s reign as an evil corporation that tortures and enslaves marine wildlife needs to come to an end, thus Abu Dhabi, as the capital of the United Arab Emirates should set an example, and should not help SeaWorld expand by allowing them to open a SeaWorld park in Abu Dhabi.

Please do not permit SeaWorld to open a SeaWorld park in Abu Dhabi.

Thank You.
