We want to share an important update regarding Jorge’s case. We have filed a new petition in federal court because ICE continues to detain Jorge unlawfully. Despite the overwhelming evidence proving that he entered the United States legally, has lived here lawfully, and has no criminal record other than minor traffic tickets, ICE is still holding him.
Jorge has deep roots in this country. He is part of a strong, supportive community and has immediate family members who are U.S. citizens. Yet, ICE is now labeling him a “flight risk,” even though he has consistently complied with the law and has never attempted to evade authorities.
While detained, Jorge has continued to show incredible humanity and strength. He spends his time helping other innocent detainees—setting up their accounts and tablets so they can communicate with their loved ones and attorneys, translating for those who don’t understand the process, and helping them learn their rights. Even in detention, he continues to serve others.
ICE has pressured Jorge to sign paperwork consenting to deportation to a third country despite his medical condition and has threatened him when he refused. We have documented all of this and submitted the evidence to federal court.
This situation has taken a devastating emotional toll on our family, especially on our little son, who has been hospitalized twice this month due to severe vomiting doctors believe is stress-related. We are doing everything we can to stay strong, but the pain and uncertainty are overwhelming.
We don’t know what God has planned for us, but we do know that Jorge continues to act with compassion and integrity, even in the most difficult circumstances. We are asking for justice, accountability, and humanity and for Jorge to finally be brought home.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us, pray for us, and share Jorge’s story.
