Concerns regarding Social Media have been a much talked about subject, which very much still needs to gather traction. There have articles in mainstream media and on the news of dangerous trends being attempted by young people, some with devastating consequences. There have been further articles raising awareness of the dangers of social media: underage usage, doxxing, bully, and so on. Which is why, after seeing some rather worrying behaviour on TikTok, I decided to save videos to compile evidence. On my mission, I have educated myself on TikTok’s community guidelines to ensure I can differentiate posts between that comply with guidelines and those which do not.
To further exemplify the cause, one high profile actor in late 2022, Kate Winslet, acted alongside her own diaghter, Mia in a CH4 film called I Am Kate. In an interview on Sunday with Laura Keunsburg, regarding issues with social media, Kate said, “I do wish that our Government would crack down on it. I do wish that there would be certain platforms that were banned before a certain age. I wish that security checks would be much more rigorous.”
An article in the telegraph gives a synopsis of I Am Ruth:
“Savage uses this series to explore capital-I issues – austerity, depression, coercive control – and the theme of social media could hardly have been more timely. Only in October, we had the report into the teenager Molly Russell's death, attributed to "the negative effects of online content"
