Hello!
Happy New to all. The new year has not brought respite to animals in captivity.
Two updates ago, I shared a video of the deplorable condition of Bandung Zoo’s second sun bear pit taken by a visitor in March 2016 https://www.dropbox.com/s/o2cxezr5fh2zuro/Kebun%20binatang%20bandung.mp4?dl=0
Today, I received a tip from blogger at https://www.facebook.com/Cee4Lies/, about a possible 2018 video showing the second sun bear pit, and the sun bears were fighting, again. How many more fights are we not aware of that are not captured in a video?

Cee4Life/Sybelle Foxcroft who is Bandung Zoo’s exclusive partner said that the zoo is a wildlife sanctuary. Saying that Bandung Zoo is a wildlife sanctuary does not make it a sanctuary. Wild life sanctuaries do not exploit animals, nor breed them to gin up foot traffic. Here is an excellent article I hope you will read and share https://www.thoughtco.com/difference-between-zoo-and-sanctuary-127657
The excuses used by zoos to justify holding animals against their will, about wanting to educate the public, is hogwash. The compassion and educational programs carried out by Cee4Life and Bandung Zoo appears to only serve the purpose of imparting to visitors, especially the young impressionable minds that keeping animals in zoos is acceptable.
Cee4Life/Sybelle Foxcroft also said that PKBSI (Indonesian Zoos and Aquariums Association) has been helping Bandung Zoo since May 2016 and they (Cee4Life) have been helping since March 2017.
In April 2017, Cee4Life/Sybelle Foxcroft announced that the process of upgrading the sun bear enclosure (pit #1, where Kardit is housed), had begun. Thus far, there have been numerous upgrade announcements that were supposed to have taken place in this pit #1.
Abuse, neglect and exploitation are rampant in over 92% of Indonesia’s zoos. This is why we must boycott travels to Indonesia until her Government steps up to enforce their animal welfare laws and make additional and meaningful changes to it.
