Petition to be delivered to UTD Administration and UTD Office of Auxiliary Services
Students of the University of Texas at Dallas would like to call to attention and ultimately bring about a change in the working conditions of food and dining service workers on campus. The Mercury published an article detailing Chartwells' workers' mistreatment on campus. Workers have faced pay discrepancies, withholding of pay for the first six weeks of employment, withholding of pay stubs, favoritism, and promotions without any pay raise. International students with F-1 visas are not allowed to seek employment off campus, so they must accept a lower wage with no possibility of raises. Workers who have made contact with a union, the United Food and Commercial workers 1000, fear action might be taken against them for doing so. We, the students of UTD, find these circumstances unacceptable and demand that there be an improvement in the working conditions of on campus Chartwells workers.
