We are sending this to the White House, Department of Education, and key members of Congress. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen!
However: We are barely scratching the surface, and we're getting mixed signals from Washington DC right now (some good, some bad). They need to be pushed hard at this time, and having a more appropriate percentage of the 36+ million struggling citizens on the petition gives us the muscle to do that.
Will you make it your mission to get ten people to sign in the next week? Paste the link to it in twenty places where people with student loans will see it, and get everyone you know with student loans to look at it. Please tell your local media and also national media that it has a million signatures. Also, boosting the petition works well- we get about a third of our signatures that way.
This is a large problem, and requires a little more more than your signature to solve. I hope you can appreciate this fact. We have a huge muscle to flex now, and so I beg you to please make the extra effort.
Remember: When we started this petition, NO ONE was talking about cancelling student loans by executive order, and candidate Biden shut us down, even, on the bankruptcy issue at a meeting in Iowa! Today, loan cancellation by executive order is at the top of the news, and Biden has made very serious pledges on both loan cancellation and returning bankruptcy rights to ALL loans.
We really are the tip of the spear in this battle.
