Hi-
I wanted to let you know that the petition calling on the President to cancel federally owned student loans (about 85% of all student loans) has surpassed 700,000 signatures.
Significantly: leading democrats have "appropriated" our call! Two weeks ago, Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Schumer introduced legislation calling on the President to cancel student loans by executive order! Although their proposal was "weasel worded" with ambiguous language, the fact of the matter is that our proposal is now in play. This was not true four years ago.
There are 55 million voters in the country with student loans, and 44 million of them were never going to be able to repay. This was true even before the pandemic. This is enough voters to elect a president outright, nearly!
I hope very much that you will report on the petition. The President- whether this one or the next- can cancel these loans without congressional approval, without needing one dime of tax money, and without adding one penny to the national debt. There simply is no stronger, cheaper, or better way to stimulate the economy!
