President Tinubu - Reject the Bill Criminalising Bus Preaching in Nigeria NOW!

The Issue

To: His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)

From: Concerned Christians and Defenders of Faith in Nigeria

The National Assembly has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act Amendment Bill, which seeks to penalize anyone who preaches the Word of God inside commercial buses with a ₦50,000 fine or imprisonment. By grouping the sacred ministry of the Gospel with commercial hawking, this bill treats the Great Commission as a traffic offense.

We firmly call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to exercise his constitutional power to WITHHOLD ASSENT to this bill. We urge the President to return this legislation to the National Assembly for a total review that removes any clause criminalizing religious expression.

Nigeria is a secular, multi-religious state built on freedom. Safety on our roads can be achieved through better infrastructure, vehicle maintenance, and driver training - not by silencing the Word of God.

“But Peter and John replied, ‘Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.’”Acts 4:19-20

This is certainly NOT just about a traffic bill; If it were, the herds of cattle that floods the highway, obstructing traffic and causing numerous accident would have made it into that bill. The Muslims who disrupt free flow of traffic by blocking the road to pray, thereby causing turmoil, traffic jam and sometimes accidents would have made it to the bill, but they witch-hunt the innocent armless bus preaching, which can be likened to the mini-tv set on BRT buses in Lagos and elsewhere, where paid adverts are run. This is a spiritual battle for the soul of our nation and our right to speak the name of Jesus freely.

History will judge us by how we stood up for the Gospel when it was threatened. Sign this petition today! Let your voice be counted. Let us send an undeniable message to the Presidency: We will not sit by and watch the Gospel be criminalized.
