Petition updateReject Stanford Divestment from IsraelIs Stanford Divestment Resolution Legal?
Stanford Community Against Divestment
Feb 20, 2015
Note that as in the case of the UC Davis Student Senate, the constitution of the Associated Students of Stanford University restricts its scope to matters directly affecting Stanford Students. As with UC Davis, the anti-Israel divestment resolution seems to be out of scope and subject to legal challenge. Text from the ASSU constitution, Section 5B. 2. No Association governing body, including the Association legislative bodies, members of the Association legislative bodies, the President, and the Vice President, shall exercise this right in matters not directly affecting Stanford students. A matter shall be construed as directly affecting Stanford students only if there is at least one Stanford student who is affected by the matter in a substantially different manner than would be the case if he or she were not a university student. http://assu.stanford.edu/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/ASSU-Constitution.pdf
