There are a lot of complications in rare diseases. One of the biggest is that lack of numbers = zero funding. While we are extremely excited that kidney cancer recently received $11 million dollars from the NIH for research, sadly RMC was not included in this grant.
That’s why this petition is so important and we need YOUR VOICE!
There are over 7,000 rare diseases amongst 350 million people worldwide! RMC was discovered in 1995, and while 21 years is too long in our opinion, the technology is changing and those with rare diseases aren't alone.
We want to discover the true prevalence, we want research, and we want the best doctors and scientific minds to learn about RMC. Because once they do, the current picture of RMC will change.
No… the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) isn't doing research or giving funding to RMC. No…the American Cancer Society isn't giving funding or doing research on RMC. But this organization is. It started with 1 voice and with this petition, we are now over 5,500 strong. We need more research for sickle cell trait and RMC to help prevent cancers from developing, to monitor kidney function in sickle cell trait and to use what we learn from those relationships to continue helping the SCD and rare disease community.
So... use your voice, ask your friends, coworkers and family to help us too!
