“America We Have a Problem”,....Jones Act

In the 100 years anniversary of the Jones Act the law celebrates with an old and ever shrinking shipping fleet that no longer serves its war protectionist purpose. However, like an old patriarch, it continues to protect the Shipping Industry from foreign competition. In the U.S., only 2% of domestic freight travels by sea, in comparison to Europe, with more than 40% of goods transported by sea. This leaves the Jones Act with nothing good to celebrate in its 100 years anniversary.
