Petition to save the oceans

The ocean plays an essential role for life on earth. It provides over 70 percent  of the oxygen we breathe, serves as a habitat for marine life, transport heat from the equator to the poles, regulating our climate and weather patterns, source of natural resources and many more. Everyday, the ocean is under attack from natural sources and manmade pollution. Humans take advantage of the benefits they could get and not realizing that they are killing oceans for their own good. Therefor the possibility of life in the ocean is slowly decreasing.

According to a study done by the University of Georgia, 18 billion pounds of plastic trash winds up in our oceans each year. There are 25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. Of that, 269,000 tons float on the surface, while some four billion plastic microfibers per square kilometer litter the deep sea. Approximately 4 billion pounds of trash per year enters the ocean. There are dead zones in the oceans that have been created by pollution making life in those zones impossible for marine or plant life. Over 100,000 marine animals die every year from plastic entanglement and ingestion. Not all sewage that enters the ocean is treated. 80% of sewage that flows into the Mediterranean Sea is untreated, which can lead to disease.

-if such activities such as excessive fishing and extreme use of corals and shells as a souvenir, will lead to extinction.

- because of the pollution created by mankind like littering, dumping wastes in the ocean, factory spilling, and dynamite fishing, causes the water to be toxic for sea creatures and having a lesser food source for humans

-The oceans covers 70% of oxygen production and if ocean destruction continues there wouldn’t be enough oxygen source for everyone because the water is so contaminated that the plants like  phytoplankton will not function well to sustain breathable air for living organisms

- unaccessible for water transportations like boats because of the toxins its releasing to the air causing tradings through oceans to be impossible

- lacking of fish resources leads to inflation rate in fish markets

- poverty will be evident because of decreasing in job opportunities, like fisher mans, factories, seaman and more

-Carbon emissions harm the oceans as well as the air. If our behavior continues as is, the surface water of the ocean could be 150% more acidic than it is now.

Philosophical view:

It sees a relationship between social problems and environmental problem and it is the society’s responsibility to implement such changes in order to improve or address issues regarding the environment therefore its philosophical view is social ecology

- marine life will be preserve

- more food source

- more oxygen supply for everyone

-  business tradings on the ocean is possible

-  stable business for everyone

- people who will be caught littering will have an immediate mandatory cleaning service

- there will be a factoring checking for every month (random days) and if they are caught violating any rules that could harm the ocean they will pay an excessive amount that will be put in the funds of cleaning service of the the specific ocean and they will be no longer legal to work again

Imagine a world where oceans are no longer present and all you could think of is chaos. Suffocation, starvation, pollution, poverty, plague and death will be a norm in the next generation. If our ignorance continues, oceans will cease to exists and so will we.
