Petition updateIt Is Time for Action on the Dehiwala ZooLet's Keep Up the Pressure
Concerned Citizens of Sri Lanka
Oct 3, 2015
During the last few weeks we have gained more than 4,400 signatures. Thank you for your support! We also appreciate the Government of Sri Lanka taking this issue seriously by calling for a probe of the Dehiwala Zoo: http://www.sundaytimes.lk/150927/news/wildlife-minister-orders-multiple-probes-to-clean-up-zoo-165687.html However, we need to keep up the pressure to ensure that the steps outlined by the Government to address the immediate concerns regarding the zoo are implemented and that the main (and ultimate) goal of closing the zoo and converting it to a different public use is achieved. To do so, we must keep up the pressure on the Government. Please continue to support this petition by sharing it with your family and friends and by promoting it on social media so that we can reach the critical milestone of 5,000 signatures. Please also consider supporting the two petitions below that relate to the unethical and institutionalized form of poaching of protected wildlife by the National Zoological Gardens, which is an immediate concern: https://www.change.org/p/department-of-wild-life-sri-lanka-mr-anura-de-silva-zoo-director-dehiwela-do-not-steal-four-baby-wildlife-cubs-from-uda-walawe-and-giritale-and-subject-them-to-imprisonment-for-life?source_location=update_footer&algorithm=promoted https://www.change.org/p/president-of-sri-lanka-he-maithripala-sirisena-minister-of-sustainable-development-wildlife-hon-gamini-jayawickrama-perera-director-general-department-of-wildlife-conservation-mr-h-d-ratnayake-free-the-wild-born-ritigala-elephant-calves-at-pinnavala- Thank you for your time and compassion!
