Plea to put childhood cancer drugs on NHIS or some form of subsidy provided in next budget

My name is Naa Adzoa Adzeley Boi-Dsane. I am a level 400 medical student of the University of Ghana (Legon). I have experienced situations whereby children who could have been successfully treated, died from childhood cancer not because the treatment for it was unavailable but due to insufficient funds. Childhood cancer is curable and I believe that we must all do our best to save our children while we can.
Treatment of childhood cancers require at least Ghc1,500 and given that these drugs are not covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) contributes to the 20% of cases that present late increasing the mortality rate.
The average Ghanaian might not be able to afford treatment should cancer strike. I believe putting the drugs on the NHIS or making some form of subsidy available will be a step in the right direction for our country. These are our future leaders. We all have a role to play. Let's make this happen by signing and sharing the petition so that others get involved and it eventually reaches the appropriate quarters. Thank you so much.
