Correct monitoring management of Licensed Zoos with transparent records.The government to take all necessary measures by introducing a new legislation controlling the import of large exotic animals unsuited to the climate of Cyprus.
The issue
1) Detention facilities are inadequate with instead of a water facility in which elephants can immerse and wallow, a children's paddling pool is provided surrounded by rocks preventing access. A decorative insult to intelligent people.
2). Elephants are heterothermic animals. The climate in Paphos has very high temperatures and humidity. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will constitute DAILY HELL for the elephants.
3). There are no provisions to ensure that the facilities provide (for the purposes of heterothermic) mud and water to allow all/body wallowing as well as dustbaths.
4). Elephants should be able to walk on a variety of substrates and not on level concrete areas. Floors should be covered with rubber and sand, instead of cement.
5). There are no conditions that allow the elephants to engage in the full repertoire of natural behaviours.
