Remove Woodrow Wilson's name from the new bridge over the Potomac River and rename it the James A. Garfield Bridge.

Remove Woodrow Wilson's name from the new bridge over the Potomac River and rename it the James A. Garfield Bridge.
The Issue
President Woodrow Wilson was an avowed racist. And unlike many of his predecessors and successors in the White House, he put that racism into action through public policy. Most notably, his administration oversaw the segregation of the federal government, destroying the careers of thousands of talented and accomplished black civil servants. He does not deserve to be honored in today's society with having his name on one of the major interstate bridges carrying thousands in the DC area. We petitions are requesting the name be removed immediately. Change the bride name to the James A. Garfield Bridge, for a president who was a Brigadier General in the Civil War, advocated for civil rights for African Americans and whose assassination in Washington, DC lead to major revisions in federal hiring practices, almost a half century before Wilson came into office. Wilson was a bigot and a racist even in his own time and does not deserve the honor of having this bridge named after him. Honor a real hero, Mr. President.
