The Issue

Zimbabwe was once the bread basket of Southern Africa but after the land seizures, food production plummeted and the country now imports basic foodstuffs because of dire shortages of wheat, soya beans and other crops. A World Bank report this week on the Zimbabwe Agriculture Sector Disaster Risk Assessment revealed that ZIMBABWE is now left with only three commercial growers of coffee. This is down shockingly from 120 farmers who used to grow this crop before the start of the chaotic land reform programme in 2000. Also reported are similar drops in the production of wheat, maize, tobacco, cotton, soya bean, groundnuts, sorghum and sugarcane

Sign this petition to urge the Zimbabwean government to transparently publish the results of the Land Audit that was undertaken with the aim of seeking to identify underutilised land and redistribute it to productive farmers. There is currently no date set for the findings to be published. We urge President Mnangagwa to be true to his word and ensure that the land redistributed includes all the underutilised land and the multiple farms owned illegally by Zanu PF heavyweights. Given ZANU-PF’s long track record of backtracking on its promises we call on the Government of Zimbabwe through Parliament to appoint an Independent Body to oversee the Land Audit and implementation of the redistribution of Land to productive farmers.

Furthermore we call for the auditing by an Independent Body of other property owned Members of Parliament, Government Officials, Party Officials and Senior Executives at Parastatals to determine what property was obtained by corrupt or illegal means. If Zimbabwe is truly open for business transparency and accountability is a must. It is not too much to ask that henceforth no one in public office must have property or land obtained by corrupt or illegal means.
