There is an all too common story repeating itself in America today. For the past 25 years our justice system has locked up 1st time nonviolent drug offenders for multiple decade mandatory minimum sentences. Due to this era of mass incarceration far too many children are growing up without both parents in the home, and that only perpetuates the cycle. Additionally, a young person can get caught with a small amount of marijuana that results in a permanent criminal record, barring them from employment, financial aid for college, and public housing, yet a Wall Street executive can swindle BILLIONS of dollars from hard working Americans, pay a monetary fine, and go about their business as if nothing ever happened. We have to change the way our justice system treats the poor and middle class. This issue must be trumpeted by people of influence. I was hoping to hear more musicians speaking out about this at the Grammys last night. The election season is here and change can only occur when YOU get involved in the political process. Make candidates earn your vote. Lets end the mass incarceration of our young men and women.
