Despite our collective efforts to protect this ecologically significant corridor on Quadra Island, we have received troubling news. In a recent email from Colin Koszman of Mosaic Forest Management, it was confirmed that cutblock 12-651 “may” be logged anytime this fall or winter.

This is a deeply disappointing development. The threatened area east of Luoma Lake is not just a forest—it is home to a rare wetland ecosystem, the pristine Two Mile Lake, and an ancient bog. It is also a vital wildlife corridor that supports wolves, deer, birds, and countless other species that depend on the interconnectedness of this land. Logging here would not only endanger these habitats, but it would irreversibly alter the natural balance of Quadra Island’s biodiversity.

The fight to protect 12-651 is not over. Community members are preparing to stand in defense of this land, and peaceful action will be organized. If you would like to participate, stay informed, or support these efforts, please reach out to Eileen of the Peaceful Grannies at sowerby1611@uniserve.com.

This is the time to stand together for the preservation of Quadra’s unique ecosystems. Let’s ensure that this ancient bog, its waters, and its wildlife are safeguarded—not sacrificed—for future generations.
