Well folks, as it turns out, whilst NHS Fife have agreed not to redeploy the support team to other areas of the NHS, what has happened is they are refusing to fully staff this team. They are currently down by 4 vital team members and have been told that these positions will not be filled.

By not fully staffing the team, they leave many women without the vital support they need at one of the most vulnerable times of their life. By not supporting the service, NHS is leaving the women of Fife at risk of mental health issues, leading to higher costs in mothers mental health services. Increased mother and baby readmissions. Rising rates of childhood illnesses among a whole host of other issues directly related to lowered breastfeeding rates!

To refuse to fully staff the team, then measure their impact and effectiveness at their current capacity will allow NHS Fife all the excuses the need to remove this service. However, the long term impact on other health services will end up costing the NHS much more than they would save by preserving and fully staffing this essential team!

Please keep sharing let's show the NHS how important this service is! Let Fife be a leader in breastfeeding support!
