If you're planning to attend the city meeting on Nov. 6 & stand up for KC's Line Creek Forest, THANK YOU! Here are a few details below that might make your trip to City Hall a little easier.
If you'd like to attend, you can RSVP here.
We are opposing the Special Use Permit application for a large-scale development (a campus with a large road, roundabout and sports fields) proposed for the forest, and encouraging a conservation plan for part of the forest.
Our item is the FIRST one on the docket following a few small continuances, so we are lucky. Our issue will likely begin a little after 9 a.m. Feel free to bring a friend with you!
MEETING DETAILS
When: Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. (you might want to get there a little early). You'll go through a short security check when you enter the building, so don't bring anything you wouldn't take on a plane.
Where: KC's City Hall, 26th floor. There will be a table with the Special Use Permit info when you exit the elevator. There is a large meeting room with comfortable seating for attendees. Here's the address: 414 E. 12th St. Kansas City MO 64106
Parking: There is a parking garage on the west side of the building, as well as plenty of street parking and other garages around the area.
OUR PRESENTATION
We have 5 speakers who will be formally presenting on the issues related to the Special Use Permit, then we will will invite anyone else who would like to share their personal experience or comments regarding development in the forest. We anticipate the school district will also have people speaking in favor of the development.
At the beginning of our presentation, we will invite anyone who is there on behalf of the forest to STAND UP so the City Plan Commission can see the representation of our community.
IF YOU PLAN TO SPEAK:
- You'll go up to the podium and speak in a microphone directly in front of the commission members.
- They are very engaged and interested in this project and may ask you some questions.
- You should speak to your own experiences and knowledge related to the Line Creek Forest.
- There is no time limit for speaking, but we are trying to limit how long each of our speakers are at the podium, so that everyone has a chance to be heard.
- The dress code seemed to range all over - some people in suits, jeans, business casual, etc. We didn't see any yoga pants, though.
- You can end your comments with a request. For example, we are asking the commission to DENY to Special Use Permit or only approve with a condition of a strict, enforceable conservation plan.
