A Message Concerning the Water Tower
- Chase Bruton - Town of Yorktown, Town Manager
“The historical image of the tiger will stay on the water tower!
My primary concern as the Town Manager is maintaining critical infrastructure for the town. With the changing of the logo at the school system, and the timing of the upkeep at the water tower, we saw this as an opportunity to align town branding without engaging frustrations over the school’s newer logo.
At the start of my administration, I promised to champion the small town community feel and provide transparency. After some thought provoking interactions with caring and insightful residents, reflection, and individual discussions with my council members, I have come to the understanding of just how important this symbol is to our community. The outpouring of support for the existing tiger on the water tower has shown a community desire to keep certain pieces of our history intact. For those who engaged with us in a positive civil discourse, thank you for making your opinions known. They are heard and valued.
For further clarification and transparency, this project was not a part of taxpayer expenses. Projects like this, maintaining the infrastructure of our water systems are paid for by those residents using the water system through their fees and not taxpayer dollars.
Two years ago, to centralize and simplify all of the numerous tiger related logos, our Yorktown Community Schools updated their branding. I hope that this course correction helps to better preserve links to the town’s heritage, while moving forward in support of one of the greatest schools in the state. Let’s show our Tiger Pride and increase our support for the schools programs and clubs.”
