First off, thank you to EVERYONE that has supported our initiative. Currently we are at 333 signed petitions....simply AMAZING!!!
The Dauphin Rail Museum's Statement of Purpose is: "To Preserve, Interpret and Present the Rich Railway History of Dauphin and the Parkland Region."
We take this statement very seriously. We try to honour our 129 year rail history and all the people that were influenced directly or indirectly by this history and our actions.
We are at a point that we have done most everything we can do regarding this matter. It appears that this full removal of the turntable will continue to go ahead despite our efforts. The Museum does have a meeting scheduled with the City on 4/11/25 regarding how to memorialize this artifact off site.
Let it be known that the City of Dauphin will be held to account when it comes to our heritage given their new City Plan unveiled in 2024 which explicitly stated:
C16 (b) "Identify and protect heritage resources including buildings, structures, landscapes, heritage sites, and other areas of historical, architectural, and/or archaeological significance, while ensuring public access."
Finally, as a point of clarification, there was a media availability on CBC Manitoba Radio at Noon on 4/4/25. There was no prior notification made by CBC that the Mayor of Dauphin would be on the interview and the way the interview was conducted did not allow us to refute inaccurate statements made by the Mayor. Quite frankly, it was disappointing but not unexpected.
