Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc, the Town Board of East Hampton and Carole Brennan, East Hampton Town Clerk:

I am writing to express my strong support for the Town Board’s adoption of the Invasive Species Adaptive Management Plan for the Benson Reserve property in Montauk that is the subject of a public hearing to be held on November 16, 2023. The draft of the plan that has been circulated is comprehensive, thoughtful and thoroughly addresses the management needs of this important property. In addition to restoring the native habitats vital to our insect, avian and mammalian species the proposed management plan and recommendations upon implementation will increase the durability and resiliency of this property from the coastal environment and the forces it endures.

The goals of the plan and the suggested management methods and proposed mitigation measures will enhance the multitude of benefits this parcel provides to our natural communities as well as the scenic contribution that this stretch of road provides to the community.

I would urge the Town Board to adopt this plan and take actions in furtherance of its goals and methodology to protect our natural resources and our shared quality of life.

Sincerely,

You’re welcome to use this sample letter as-is by copying and pasting from here. If you’d like, personalize it with your own anecdotes or experiences that highlight the importance of Montauk to you.
