Thank you all for your continued support.

In an effort to be as transparent as possible as this cause develops, I wanted to share an update about the CDOCs new statements.

The proposal put forth by the CDOC states that “96 of the inmates house there (The Beacon at Skyline Correctional Center), will be transferred to Centennial Correctional Facility.” This means that the majority of men at The Beacon (a minimum security facility) will be transferred to Centennial Correctional Facility (a maximum security facility).

Since starting this petition and news channels picking up this story, The CDOC is now making claims that they plan to continue the programming of The Beacon but are simply moving this program to Centennial Correctional Facility. This is NOT in the proposal and has not been communicated. Their reasoning for this sudden change can only be assumed and interpreted.

Why does this matter? Inmates at The Beacon at Skyline are minimum security inmates. Moving them to a maximum security facility not only poses a serious safety risk, but also puts these men at risk when they come up for parole or halfway houses. When these entities look at inmate classification, they look at the level of custody they are in. Even if The Beacon programming continues at Centennial, the facility they are housed in will be looked at. There are many reasons why this programming will simply not work at a maximum security facility.

We are continuing to urge our lawmakers and leadership members of the CDOC to answer these questions and to be transparent about their plans.
