Good morning, Everyone!
I wanted to give you an update regarding the status of our petition. We are still just below 500 signatures (482). Our goal is 856 (the number of proposed homes in this development) before the July 9 city council vote, but we are over halfway to that goal!
It has come to light that Midlothian ISD board was only vaguely aware of the project and had no idea that it is high density housing. They think this is bad for Lake Ridge as well as their school system. Students during Phases 1-4 of construction would attend MISD. This would most likely require a new elementary and junior high, and would place additional stress on the high school as well as resources.
The trustee indicated that tax revenues from the development wouldn't be near enough to build 2 schools, which means the citizens of Midlothian would have to pay more in taxes via a bond to build said schools. The trustee conveyed that getting a bond passed would be difficult. One of our opposition members is currently talking to them about attending the July 9 meeting and voicing their concern.
As a result, I have added the school concern as item #21 to the petition.
If you would like to volunteer to pass out flyers in your neighborhood, please send an email to preservelakeridge@gmail.com. I am working on a way to share the flyer here, but change.org only allows a link. Our opposition team can send you a pdf file to print if you would like that option.
We are making great progress! Let's keep pushing. The only way to get this thing changed into something more palatable is to let them know that this development is NOT okay in its current format.
Thanks for your support!
