The Western Australian Government just confirmed that they will work towards alternatives to the locking up of individuals for unpaid fines. Despite the alternatives maybe not ideal and not considering the fact of impoverishment at least they will not be arrested and jailed. BUT, while the Attorney-General's Office and others work towards the alternatives in the meantime daily people are being arrested and locked for unpaid fines. We must insist that the Attorney-General immediately table to Parliament a motion to suspend, set aside the current legislation that has police arresting and locking up individuals for unpaid fines.
