Help Stop the Secret Sell Off of NSW Public Services

The issue

NSW is in the grip of the largest privatisation program in its history.

If we don’t act soon, NSW could lose its Land and Property Information Services, Trustee and Guardian Services, TAFEs, Sport and Recreation Centres, management of our National Parks, transport services, gaols, housing, disability care and child protection services to private, unaccountable interests.

This is all being played out in an environment of reduced transparency as the NSW Government strips funds for the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

The cuts come in the wake of the Auditor-General’s report on Family and Community Services (FACS) which states that $2.5 billion is paid annually to the non-government sector to deliver services usually handled by the Department.

According to the Auditor General, the contracts do not include outcome-focused performance measures or include measurable targets to benchmark performance against the Department. Incredibly, these private interests are not directly accountable to the NSW Government for how these vast sums of taxpayer dollars are spent.

Unlike in other States and jurisdictions, NSW has not given the Auditor General legislative powers to 'follow the money'.

Without the necessary laws to ensure independent financial scrutiny and accountability, the Baird/Berejiklian Government will continue to hand billions of taxpayer dollars to the private sector.

But you can make a difference.  Sign the Public Service Association (PSA) petition calling on the NSW Government to:

1. protect our valuable public services from privatisation; and

2. introduce 'follow the money' laws for financial scrutiny and accountability.

Sign today and together we can defend our public services.
