Save the Francis Burt Law Education Programme and Mock Trials Competition

The Political and Legal Educators Association of Western Australia has been given the troubling news that the Department of Education has advised the Francis Burt Law Education Program and the Mock Trial Competition that they would not be continuing their funding beyond 30 June 2019.

The purpose of this petition is to ask the West Australian government to reconsider their decision to scrap their funding of this important program.

Last year was the first time that Civics and Citizenship became mandatory in WA, so there is an urgent need for Civics and Citizenship programs, resources and teacher professional learning events such as those currently provided by the FBLEP.

The Mock Trial Competition provides an enjoyable, dynamic way of introducing students to the law. It provides students with an opportunity to learn valuable skills in research and in the development and presentation of a persuasive argument.

PLEAWA would like to encourage anyone who has benefited from the activities of Francis Burt to sign this petition to help save this invaluable resource and competition.
