Close Pickering by 2018!

Sign our new petition to close Pickering when its licence expires in 2018. -- close-pickering.ca -- Just 5 km east of Toronto, Pickering's 6 nuclear reactors are the oldest in Canada, and the 7th oldest in the world. A whopping 2.2 million people live within 30 kms of the station, and all of Toronto lies within 50 km. The plant was designed to last 30 years and now it's 45 years old, and they want to run it till it's 53 years old! We don't need the electricity; we subsidize it almost 1 billion $ per year; and you're not insured in the case of an accident. Meanwhile the whole world is going renewable. Ontario has renewable alternatives including conservation, water power from Quebec, and made-in-ON wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and biogas. Tell the provincial gov't that you want a renewable future, not rebuilt and extended nuclear reactors.
