Rivers Without Borders Canada- Tides Canada Initiatives
7 nov 2017
Thank you very much for supporting Rivers Without Borders Canada in our efforts to safeguard the future of the spectacular transboundary watersheds along the wild border of northwest BC and southeast Alaska. We need an ecosystem-based international framework for the governance of these river systems as they are facing mining and related industrial development on a potentially massive scale. Does it surprise you to learn that the United Nations recently reported Canada as having the second-worst mining record in the world? We can't afford another Mount Polley disaster, which saw 24 million cubic metres of sludge and mine waste flooding into nearby waterways in the Caribou Region of BC in 2014. We would like to continue collecting signatures before sending this petition off to Premier Horgan in order to increase the impact. Perhaps the attached photo essay by DeSmog Canada detailing the mining boom in northwest BC will inspire you to share the petition with a friend, neighbour, or co-worker. Many thanks, Jenafor Jenafor Ryane B.C. Campaigner Rivers Without Borders Canada
